Operations Power down the server Before powering down the server for any upgrade or maintenance procedures, perform a backup of critical server data and programs. IMPORTANT: When the server is in standby mode, auxiliary power is still being provided to the system.
Remove the drive Determine the status of the drive from the drive LED definitions ("Hot-plug drive LED definitions" on page 11). Back up all data on the drive. Remove the drive. Remove the server IMPORTANT: When removing a server from an even numbered bay that remains unoccupied by another server for an extended period of time, the performance of the server installed in the bay to the immediate left may be impacted.

To install the component: Prepare the server for installation. Install the server. When seated properly, the server will be flush with the front of the chassis and the release lever will close completely without resistance. Press the Power On/Standby button. The server powers down and enters standby mode.
Register the product. Installing the chassis into a rack To install the chassis into a rack, see the HP Apollo a6000 Chassis Setup and Installation Guide on the HP website (http://www.hp.com/go/Apollo_6000/docs). For more information, see the instructions included with the rail kit.
Install the I/O modules in the rear of the chassis in the bay that corresponds to the server. Use standard network cables to connect the I/O module to the network using the ports provided on the I/O module. Installing a server CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the chassis unless all bays are populated with a component or a blank.
Connect the AC or DC power cables, depending on the power configuration. When the circuit breakers are powered, the chassis and HP Advanced Power Manager have power. By default, each installed component also powers up. Examine the HP Advanced Power Manager for any errors which may prevent installed components from powering up.
Manual installation—Insert the operating system CD into the USB-attached DVD-ROM drive (user provided) and reboot the node. You must download the HP Service Pack for ProLiant from the SPP download site (http://www.hp.com/go/spp/download) and create SPP media so that you can install the drivers.
Hardware options installation Introduction If more than one option is being installed, read the installation instructions for all the hardware options and identify similar steps to streamline the installation process. WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal system components to cool before touching them.

LRDIMM HP SmartMemory HP SmartMemory authenticates and unlocks certain features available only on HP Qualified memory and verifies whether installed memory has passed HP qualification and test processes. Qualified memory is performance-tuned for HP ProLiant and BladeSystem servers and provides future enhanced support through HP Active Health and manageability software.

Advanced Memory Protection options are configured in the BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU). If the requested AMP mode is not supported by the installed DIMM configuration, the server boots in Advanced ECC mode. Remove the heatsink: Loosen one pair of diagonally opposite screws halfway, and then loosen the other pair of screws. Completely loosen all screws in the same sequence. Remove the heatsink from the processor backplate. WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the heatsink to cool before touching it.

Remove the clear processor socket cover. Retain the processor socket cover for future use. CAUTION: THE PINS ON THE SYSTEM BOARD ARE VERY FRAGILE AND EASILY DAMAGED. To avoid damage to the system board, do not touch the processor or the processor socket contacts. Install the processor.

CAUTION: Do not press down on the processor. Pressing down on the processor may cause damage to the processor socket and the system board. Press only in the area indicated on the processor retaining bracket. CAUTION: Close and hold down the processor cover socket while closing the processor locking levers.

The iLO 4 subsystem includes an intelligent microprocessor, secure memory, and a dedicated network interface.
